Editorial Policy

Last updated: 3 November 2026

PV Repair exists to give accurate, practical, safety-first information about solar PV faults and maintenance. This policy explains how we make our content.

Research

Each article starts from a real problem that owners, technicians or EPCs face. We research it using:

  • Manufacturer manuals, datasheets, installation guides and technical notes.
  • International and Indian standards, including the IEC 62446, IEC 62548, IEC 62109, IEC 62305 and IS 3043 series where relevant.
  • Published technical literature and industry guidance on PV reliability and failure modes.
  • Established field practice in solar installation and O&M.

Where values vary between manufacturers or standards — such as trip thresholds, cleaning water quality or earth resistance targets — we say so and give typical ranges rather than presenting one number as universal.

Writing standards

  • Safety comes first. We clearly identify hazards and the tasks that must be performed by trained, licensed professionals.
  • Explain the cause. We explain why a fault happens, not just how to clear it.
  • Structured troubleshooting. We present diagnosis in a logical order, starting with the simplest and safest checks.
  • Plain language. We define technical terms and avoid unnecessary jargon.
  • Original work. Our text and illustrations are created for this site. We don't copy manufacturer or third-party content.

Illustrations

All diagrams, charts and infographics on PV Repair are original illustrations created by our team for the article they appear in. Values shown in illustrative charts are labelled as illustrative or typical, and are consistent with the worked examples in the text.

Review and updates

Articles are reviewed for technical accuracy before publication and periodically afterwards. Each article shows its publication date and, when it has been revised, the date of the latest update. We update articles when standards, products or best practice change, or when readers point out errors.

Corrections

If you find an error, please contact us. We correct factual errors promptly. Significant corrections that change technical advice are noted in the article.

Independence, advertising and recommendations

  • We fund the site through advertising, which may include Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over our content.
  • We don't accept payment for coverage in our troubleshooting and repair guides.
  • Where we compare or recommend tools and software, we state our evaluation criteria in the article. If a commercial relationship exists with a product we recommend, we disclose it in that article.

How we review software and tools

When we review or compare design software, calculators or other tools:

  • We have no commercial relationship with the vendors we review — no payments, affiliate commissions or free licences in exchange for coverage. If that ever changes for a product, we will say so clearly on the page.
  • We publish our criteria and weights, and show every score, so readers can disagree with our weighting and re-rank the tools for their own needs.
  • We rely on verifiable information: official product, pricing and feature pages, neutral software directories, independent news coverage and publicly accessible product interfaces. Much of the "best software" content online is published by rival vendors; we don't use it as evidence.
  • Undocumented features are scored conservatively. If a vendor doesn't publish a price or feature, we don't assume it.
  • We include limitations and alternatives in every review, including who should choose a different product.
  • We update reviews when products, prices or evidence change, and show the date of the last update.

Not a substitute for professional advice

Our guides are educational. They don't replace an on-site assessment by a qualified technician, the manufacturer's instructions, or the regulations that apply where you live. See our disclaimer.
